Spread The Word To End The Word

In my school we are doing a thing called genius hour, where we get a portion of our time in class to work on a project in our school or community. Mine is a fundraiser for my local Special Olympics. This will be a walk-a-thon where people can register and get sponsors for every mile they walk. My question is, Why do people use the R word in a dis-respective way?
