OT Rocks! Spread the Word to End the Word!

As an occupational therapy student and future practitioner I believe in this movement whole heartedly. As OTs it is our job to advocate for ourselves and our clients. Since April is OT month it seems like the perfect time to host an even to advocate for ourselves and for others. OT Rocks! is an event conceptualized to bring awareness to OT and “Spread the Word to End the Word” in a fun and interactive way. The event will be taking place at the College of Saint Mary (ideally the courtyard) on April 28th from 12-4pm. The event itself is being hosted by Jordan Benson who will be partnering with several members from the College of Saint Mary OT department and the student occupational therapy association (SOTA). The event will have two performances by Hanwell and Jamison Murphy. Each will be performing for 1.5-2 hours. Sonnja Redding is a single mom struggling to pay her child’s hospital bills and will be completing pencil drawings of people at the event to sell for her own profit. Several members of the senior class will be completing their senior advocacy project at the event. They will be doing things like selling t-shirts, passing out flyers, poster presentations, and other various OT advocacy projects. Other students will be completing things like face painting, have games (duck pond, etc) for the kids to play. The SOTA silent auction will also take place at the event. SOTA will also be selling apparel and Amanda’s Alligators and will be keeping the profit from all three. Lastly I would like to have a station set up with lab tops where people could make their pledge on “Spread the Word to End the Words” website. We want to bring awareness to this amazing cause and OT all in one event. OT's are excellent people to advocate for Spread the Word throughout our entire careers.
