I was in special education classes for first and second grade. I was called the r-word, and I it made me feel ashamed. I really enjoyed those classes, but when I was called the r-word, it made me not want to be in special ed classes.

I think the R word is disgusting and find most people who use it to be completely ignorant to people with mental disabilities. I therefore pledge myself to not saying it, even though I don't say it now. Just to prevent any slips.

The "r-word" was a word that my grandmother would not allow in her house. As, kids we were taught to defend my uncle if anyone ever used the word. My father taught us to never use the word and to never use violence to defend our uncle.I'm anti r-word!!

My Dad worked for the State in the Department of Institutions and Agencies, and he taught us as children not to use the r-word. I remember wondering why at the time, but now I'm so grateful he did. I can't say I've never used it, but I avoid it now.

I believe that using the r-word is wrong no matter who you are talking to, or speaking of. People should be more aware of how other people may feel when that word is used. Kids with Special needs feel really hurt when the r-word is used at them.

What a disgusting word. If you use it, you should be looking in the mirror at yourself. Only a person who is "r-word" would refer to another that way!

I saw a reference to "the r-word" on CNN and didn't even know what it was. I had to look up the article to understand the reference. That word has been out of my vocabulary for many, many years. Wouldn't it be great if no one knew what it was?

When I grew up people would use the r word at me but it hurts. They think I dont know what it means but I do because my mom told me and she said I am special and don't listen to because they are just mean people. So dont use it because it hurts people.

I teach H.S. math & students say this word all the time about themselves & others. I've banned the use of the word in my room & tell them about my brother who has mental challenges, but can beat me at chess. I pledge to keep this word out of my mouth.

I feel very sad whenever someone says this word in a derogatory term, and then they just laugh. They don't know the TRUE meaning of the "R" word. I will admit that I have said it before, but I really regret it, and would like to help put an end to it.
